FAQs

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?

Birth Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional and physical support during the labor and birth experience. Birth Doulas help birthing people feel safe, empowered, and informed. Midwives are medical professionals who provide health and safety care during your labor and birth experience. For example, Midwives catch babies and take vitals: Doulas do not. Both of these professionals provide prenatal care and support and can work in tandem during your labor and birth experience.

What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a night nurse or nanny?

A postpartum doula is like the all-in-one support package for your family during those early days of parenthood. They step into your home with a warm smile, not only caring for your baby but also extending a helping hand to parents, siblings, and anyone else in your household. They're your go-to for emotional support, newborn care, and breastfeeding tips. They may even lend a hand with light household tasks.

Now, night nurses or nannies? They're your nighttime baby specialists. These night owls focus mainly on the baby, especially during those late-night hours. Their superpower is ensuring the baby is fed, changed, and cozily comfortable, granting you some much-needed rest. So, whether you're leaning towards the all-encompassing support of a postpartum doula or the nighttime assistance of a night nurse or nanny, the choice is all about what suits your family's unique needs during this precious time.

When should I find a doula?

We recommend reaching out to us as early as you feel the need. Why? Well, the earlier you hire us, the more we can immerse ourselves in your pregnancy journey and get to know you inside and out, tailoring our support precisely to your needs.

A sweet spot to consider is anywhere from 6 to 20 weeks into your pregnancy. This timeframe allows us to conduct prenatal appointments and craft a personalized care plan for your family. It's like planting the seeds of a beautiful partnership, nurturing it, and watching it bloom as we walk with you through this incredible journey. So, whether it's early or midway through your pregnancy, remember that we're here to support you every step of the way.

How Do I Find The Right Doula?

When it comes to finding the perfect doula services for your journey, we gently suggest finding someone you feel safe with and emotionally and/or energetically connected to. Your path to a harmonious birthing experience begins with understanding your own unique desires and needs, and finding someone to wholeheartedly support you in those.

Start by browsing through local doula directories and websites, where you'll discover an array of trained and certified doulas eager to learn your needs. Don't hesitate to chat with your trusted friends, family, or even your healthcare provider about options. They might have some wonderful suggestions or be able to connect you with doulas who truly resonate with the kind of support you're seeking.

Engaging in open, heartfelt conversations with potential doulas is key. Share your expectations, your fears, and your dreams - let them in on your headspace so they can better tailor their services to your individual needs. Look for a doula whose values align with your own. Whether it's a shared commitment to inclusive spaces, cultural sensitivity, or a similar vision of birthing, finding someone who 'gets' you can create a truly meaningful connection.

Lastly, trust your intuition. Your gut feeling often knows best, guiding you toward the doula who feels like the perfect companion for your unique path. Remember, the right doula services are out there, ready to embrace and support you warmly on this journey into parenthood.
